A dog accustomed to swallowing eggs once saw a snail, opened his mouth wide, and swallowed it in one great gulp, thinking it was an egg. But when it lay heavy in his stomach and caused him pain, he said, “I deserve what I am suffering, since I believed that everything round was an egg.” The fable teaches us that those who approach a matter without due judgment unwittingly entangle themselves in trouble.
