A charcoal burner who worked in a house noticed that a fuller had moved into the neighborhood. He went to him and urged him to share his home, explaining that they would grow closer to one another and save money by living under one roof. But the fuller replied, “That is quite impossible for me: whatever I whiten, you will blacken with soot.” The fable shows that those whose ways are incompatible cannot live together.
