A lion entered a farmer’s yard, and the farmer, hoping to capture him, shut the gate. Unable to get out, the lion first killed the sheep, then turned on the cattle. The farmer, fearing for his own life, opened the gate. When the lion had gone, the farmer’s wife saw him groaning and said, “You have only got what you deserved. Why did you want to shut in a creature you ought to have feared even from far away?” So wicked people who provoke those stronger than themselves deservedly suffer the harm they bring upon them.
