Prevod

A horse, an ox, and a dog, suffering from the cold, came to a man’s house. He welcomed them, lit a fire, and warmed them. He set barley before the horse and straw before the ox, and gave the dog food from his table. In return for such hospitality, they each gave him a share of the years of their lives. The horse gave him the earliest years; that is why everyone is hot-blooded and high-spirited in youth. The ox then gave him the middle years; that is why a man in middle age toils hard and works willingly, gathering wealth. Third, the dog gave him the final years; that is why everyone grows peevish in old age, loving, fawning on, and rejoicing in those alone who provide him with food, while barking and snapping at those who give him nothing.

Thus some people, base and wicked by nature, are accustomed to love only those who feed them.
