Once a snake’s tail insisted that it should go first and lead the way. But the other parts of the body said, “How will you guide us without eyes or a nose, as other animals do?” Yet they could not persuade it, until at last the wiser part gave in. So the tail took command and led the way, blindly dragging the whole body along, until it plunged into a rocky chasm, battering the spine and the entire body. Then, fawning, it begged the head, saying, “Save us, mistress, if you will! I have learned what comes of this wretched quarrel.” This fable condemns deceitful and wicked men who rise against their masters.
