In Yuzhang there was a woman of the Dai family who had long been ill without recovering. One day she saw a small stone shaped like a human figure and said to it, “You have a human form—could you be a spirit? If you can cure my lingering illness, I shall honor you greatly.” That night she dreamed that someone told her, “I shall grant you my protection.” From then on, her illness gradually abated. She then had a shrine built for the spirit at the foot of the mountain. The Dai woman served as its medium, and so it was called the Shrine of Lord Dai.
