In the early years of the Han restoration, there lived in Runan a man named Ying Shu. He had four sons, and all of them saw a divine light shining upon the shrine to the earth god. Having seen the light himself, Ying Shu asked a diviner about it. The diviner said, “This is an auspicious sign from Heaven. Surely your descendants will prosper!” He then searched the spot and found gold. From that time onward, his descendants pursued learning and entered official service, all winning renown for their talents. By the time of Ying Yang, the family had enjoyed high office and distinction for seven generations.
