Prevod

A man fell in love with an ugly, filthy slave girl of his own and readily gave her whatever she asked for. Laden with gold and trailing fine purple robes about her calves, she picked quarrels with every mistress of a household. She honored Aphrodite with lamps, believing the goddess responsible for her good fortune, and every day offered sacrifices, prayers, entreaties, and petitions. At last, one night as they slept, the goddess appeared to the slave girl in a dream and said, “Do not thank me for making you beautiful. It is the man who finds you beautiful that I am angry with.” Whoever delights in ugliness as though it were beauty is afflicted by the gods and crippled in mind.
